On our recent road trip from Paris to Switzerland, we stayed a night at the quaint and charming Hotel Moulin des Ruats located in the heart of nature in the Burgundy region of France. As we passed through the town of Avallon on our way to the hotel, we were not sure if we were on the correct road as it was a narrow winding road along a river in the forest. We wondered whether our navigation system was leading us in the right direction. But we pressed on a little further and voila! Tucked away in the woods was the entrance to Moulin des Ruats.

There is so much to do, see and experience at the oldest continuous Farmers' Market in the USA.  Learn all about this tradition in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia, in this short video.  Since this is our home town, we go to the Farmers' Market almost every week to see what's new and buy fresh-off-the farm fruits, vegetables and other foods, including fresh made breads, pastries, pasta, and pickles, to name a few.  There are so many more delicious foods at the market and many other things as well.  The fact that this one has been around since the 1700s is pretty amazing.

What is the best 5-day trip to see the beautiful country of Switzerland?  It depends on what you want to see but this itinerary will give you a start on our trip through central Switzerland.  Our goals were to see a few UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the beautiful Alps, and both city and rural life.  For many we would highly recommend that you travel through Switzerland on their train system.  Many would say it is the best in Europe with second class being close to first class in other European countries.  The Swiss Travel Pass and the beautiful panoramic views you can get by traveling by train make the decision even easier.  For our travels we blended train and automobile so that we had the flexibility to get where we needed to for our photography and video.
