Nature and Conservation

 Those that know Bonaire are familiar with their dedication to balancing nature with development.  Over 20% of the island is protected from development with wetland protected under the Ramsar convention.   There are over 203 known birds on the island throughout the year including flamingos, the island's signature bird.  Bonaire is one of the only breeding grounds for flamingos in the southern Caribbean.  You can read more about the island's natural habitat here.

The island of Bonaire is typically reached by air or cruise ship by most travelers. Virtually all cruise ships only stay for a day which for many is enough but if the natural beauty of the island has you wanting more there are numerous options for land stays.  Cruise ship lines that typically have itineries for Bonaire include:  Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Norwegian, Regent Seven Seas, Princess (image above), Windstar and Crystal.  It is not as frequently visited as the other islands.
