Carnival Horizon Outdoor Activities
The Horizon is a sister ship to the Carnival Vista and they both try to offer fun for all demographics. Outside we have the Skyride, for those who like to find the tallest part of the ship. You can now take a ride at the top, but we wouldn't recommend it for those that don't like heights. What a great way to see out to the horizon or get a good view when traveling along a coast. Can you imagine the sunset view watching the sun drop down over the horizon? We are not sure if they let the ride continue when entering port. Dr. Suess waterworks returns on this sister ship with lots of outdoor splash fun for the family as well as the Twister water slide. The SkyCourse is another way to get a view from the top while checking your balance skills. If you are an American Ninja Warrior fan then you can dream you are competing here and then race over to the Twister slide for a finale. Why not - it is all about having fun.
Adults that want to enjoy some kid-free relaxation on the ship in the sun can make there way over to the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat for some recovery time from their daily lives. Sports Square, pools and other activities await you on the outer decks.
Bars and Entertainment
The ship is currently listing 11 bars in its lineup around the ship and mixology competitions as activities. If you are into the mixology scene then your first stop for a creative drink might be the Alchemy Bar. Appropriately named for the chemistry and pharmacy nature of mixology that is ever-present in today's higher-end bars and speakeasy establishments. Couples may wish to indulge in some Passion Potion cocktails like Martini Seduction, French Kiss, and the Deal Closer that might tip the balance on fun for the evening. The Medicine Cabinet list has one of our favorites - the Moscow Mule - and Relief For What Ails has the remedy for some tropical fun. Pick from the exciting Alchemy Bar drink list or have the mixologist create something for you from a list of ingredients. There is the new RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila bar for those loving cocktails, and many other bars to explore.
If you are not a fan of the cocktail, the Carnival Horizon is here for you with its new Brewhouse combined with Guy's Pig and Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse and a Beer Station for those that love the foam and bubbles of a beer. The themed brewhouse was created with Guy Fieri, the American restauranteur food TV host of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The brews include an IPA, porter, amber and ale to satisfy most tastes and are creatively named Parched Pig craft beers. The concept of some good beer and bbq is sure to be a hit with those on this cruise ship.
With 11 bars and the Cruise the Vineyards program anyone looking for a good selection of options for alcoholic beverages will find what they are looking for on this cruise ship.
Entertainment has always been a draw for many that like to cruise and especially for those where the cruise ship is the destination and the excursions and ports not so much. IMAX is here with a theatre of movie fun for the whole family. If you don't have an IMAX theatre near where you live, here is your chance to experience what others are talking about. Live music, piano bar, karaoke, comedy clubs and lots of other options are available to entertain you day and night. You can even watch a movie while in the pool at the outdoor Dive-in Movie experience, taking a note from the days of the Drive-in theatres but with better movie options.
Spa and Fitness On The Ship
The Cloud 9 spa is the feature on this ship for those that love to pamper themselves with some spa love. Carnival calls their staff artists in with crafting options for you to relax and chill. The Carnival Horizon includes the new Cloud 9 thermal suites that are dedicated to relaxation zones with specific environments. If you are a dry heat lover, then they can deliver you that experience. They can also provide you soothing moisture in the air with Oriental or Aroma steambath environments. It sounds like climate change has a whole new meaning on the Horizon cruise ship.
Say goodbye to that moist sweaty fitness center if you want with the SkyFitness activity on this ship. Get a great view and workout at the top of the ship. A great way to start your morning off with an ocean breeze, sunrise and exercise that will make your heart race and fulfill the ideals of the blue mind as you look out at an ocean of blue water. Put on some gloves and hit some bags, ride a bike or workout on their vita course. You can still go to the regular fitness center on the ship with more options, but go ahead and take at least one day to work out with a view and a sea breeze.
The fitness staff is onboard with lots of class options. A jogging track for those not getting enough during excursion walks, a traditional spa and beauty care options can all be found on the ship. If you want a cruise ship where you can exercise off some of that great food and drink and pamper yourself, the Carnival Horizon and its staff are ready to help make it happen.
Experience New Food & Dining
One of the best values of taking a cruise is that somewhat all-inclusive aspect where your dining is included with amazing options and all you can eat. This new ship launches with most of the same options as its sister ship the Carnival Vista. The standard, if you can call it standard dining experience, are the timed dining experiences offered at the Horizons and Reflections restaurants. The Horizons is a duel-deck arrangement that is one, if not the largest, dining rooms in its fleet.
Guy's Burger joint is included without additonal fees where you can build your own burger or pick from one of Guy's creations. If you are a fan of Guy Fieri then you will want to try one of his creations. The Pig Patty is something a bacon lover must try with one traditional patty and another made only with bacon. Forget the strips of bacon, we are all-in with this burger creation. The Guy's Burger joint menu is sure to please most family members, and for the choosy ones, just create your own. If you are not a burger fan, then perhaps the choice of a pizza from Pizzeria Del Capitano at no extra cost will capture the attention of your taste buds. Open 24 hours, the Italian flour, hand tossed dough and topping will satisfy your pizza cravings and the kids will love it. The family that has their traditional Mexican dinner of the week at home can also enjoy taco and burritos made from homemade tortillas at the BlueIguana Cantina, all included in your cruise cost.
The premium restaurants on the ship include Bonsai Teppanyaki, Steakhouse, JiJi Asian Kitchen, Cucina Del Capitano, Guy's Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, Bonsai Sushi, and a few more. For a reasonable per person premium you can take a night or two for an extra special meal. Enjoy a chef preparing your meal on the hot grill in front of you at Bonsai Teppanyaki or a premium steak and sides at the Steakhouse. Start your date night with a cocktail at the Alchemy Bar, then head over to a premium restaurant for the best in on-board cuisine, follow with a comedy club, movie or acts at the limelight lounge and finish with an ocean breeze stroll on the deck before retiring for the evening. Sounds like a great reason to take a cruise on this ship and push all the stress of daily life into the sea.
Don't forget that there is a 24-hour option to also have food service delivered to your cabin for an additional fee.
Carnival Horizon vs Vista
The Horizon is the sister ship of the Vista that was also recently put into service. They both sport a hefty gross tonnage of over 130,000 and can service about 3900 guests with a crew of about 1400. This is an amazing feat of engineering considering the massive amenities and options aboard the ship. So what changes have been made between the two ships. There have been some small changes to the layouts but the ship itself has remained very similar in format. Here are some of the highlights:
Guy's Barbeque format has changed to include the brewhouse. This was part of the RedFrog Pub and Brewery on the Vista. The RedFrog Rum Bar remains on both ships.
Art apparently was not a hit on the Vista. There are no art exhibitions, auctions, games and seminars planned on the Horizon.
CLUE: The Murder Mystery also appears to have met the axe on the Horizon as an entertainment option for cruise passengers.
The casino is expected to be the same as the Vista.
Overall it appears that Carnival is pleased with the their on-board options and activities for their new ships as we meet a new age of ship with entertainment matching the changing desires of their clients. Any experience on either the Carnival Horizon or Vista should satisfy any cruise enthusiast and is a great way to get aquainted with large ship cruising.
