We knew as we approached the entrance to the hotel that we were in for a delightful experience in this tranquil woodsy location. The setting was very green and lush with the sound of the river Cousin just steps away. The air was crisp and refreshing.
The hotel is small, rustic and old world charming. As we parked and entered the lobby, we were quickly greeted by their friendly host, Muriel. She showed us to our room, which was perfectly situated on the corner of the building, with a balcony and amazing views of the stream, forest, and the working watermill right outside our window. In case you are concerned, they do turn it off at night for a peaceful sleep.
The room was elegant, cozy, very clean and comfortable with the desired amenities. We knew that this was going to be a relaxing and memorable stay in this peaceful and scenic location. We opened our balcony doors and windows to let in the fresh air and sound of the river and water wheel.
After settling in, we strolled around the premises, taking many photos to document this unique and charming hotel and location. The hotel has a restaurant serving gourmet cuisine and a dining room that is surrounded by windows affording excellent views of the natural setting. We relaxed in the lounge area with a coupe of Champagne before dinner. After all, we must enjoy real champagne while we are in France. The lounge was somewhat like a library with comfortable chairs and bookcases of historical old books.
After we enjoyed our cocktail, we were invited to take our seats in the dining room, which was very intimate and quiet with soft jazz playing in the background. We had a delicious meal artfully presented on beautiful dinnerware. When the weather is nice, you can dine outside by the rivers edge.
At night, the garden lights outside create an enchanting atmosphere.
The next morning, a breakfast buffet with an assortment of meats, cheeses, eggs, breads and pastries were served in the dining room.
Whether you are touring the area or looking for a romantic getaway, this hotel is ideally located in the heart of the Burgundy region where visitors can easily visit the nearby town of Avallon, various wine vineyards, museums and the Morvan Forest, a beautifully scenic national park.
