Besides the mansion itself, there are several outbuildings to tour that provided various functions that supported the household during Washington's time there. There are stables, beautiful gardens, a pioneer farm, a distillery and gristmill, a museum, a large souvenir shop, even an inn where you can dine in an 18th-century setting. Washington's tomb as well as a slave memorial and burial ground are also located there. Visiting the estate is enjoyable for adults and children alike.
Be sure to also view the other short video of Mount Vernon on our site that gives you an amazing aerial tour of the mansion and its grounds - Explore Mount Vernon Virginia. There is also a photo gallery on that page from our recent visit there during the holidays. Mount Vernon is beautifully decorated during the Christmas season, and in the Museum and Education Center there are several themed Christmas trees that represent George Washington's interests, as well as a large dollhouse replica of the home. There are many more things to see in the museum area, including Mount Vernon objects and artifacts that represent the life and times of Washington's presidency, as well as a short 4D Revolutionary War movie.
